Support the Ones Who Support Us

Alpha Sigma Alpha, Delta Chi Chapter at Bloomsburg University, with the help of our friends Chi Sigma Rho, have organized a fundraiser in support of our troops. Our mission is to send “care packages” to deployed military service members. We would like to make each “care package” special. Receiving a care package in the mail can be a real morale booster for a deployed service member. It gives them hope and encouragement to return home safety to their loved ones and families. I started this fundraiser after having to experience the deployment of my father and now friends. I wanted to do something that could show the service members how much we truly are thankful for what they are doing overseas. With the help of her Sisters and friend they were able to make that happen. Raise so far over $500 and collecting all types of supplies to mail over.

Soldiers are always in need of items and also entertainment while deployed. Here are some items that you could consider donating:
Food and Drink:
• Powder drink mixes
• Protein bars
• Meal Enhancers
• snacks,
• gums
• candy
Personal Care and Clothing:
• Toiletries
• Foot powders
• Cotton socks and underwear
• Disposable hand warmers
• Goggle style sunglasses
Entertainment and communication:
• Reading material.
• Word games and puzzles.
• Games Foam footballs and basketballs, Frisbees, Hacky Sacks, playing cards, yo-yos.
• Disposable camera.
• Writing material.
• Phone cards. Shop around to get the best deal on overseas minutes.

Alpha Sigma Alpha would like to thank everyone who came out to support us in raising the money and donations for the troops! Packages are being mailed as we speak!

Where it All Started

Alpha Sigma Alpha is a National sorority with chapters all over the United States. Also known as "ASA" they were founded in Farmville, Virginia at Longwood University in November 15, 1901. Five women started the sorority started as close friends Virginia Lee Boyd (Noell), Juliette Jefferson Hundley (Gilliam), Calva Hamlet Watson (Wootton), Louise Burks Cox (Carper) and Mary Williamson Hundley. With the start of ASA the sorority branched out and moved all over the United States and my luck they came to Bloomsburg University.
My name is Caroline Spignesi, I am one of the members of the Alpha Sigma Alpha, Delta Chi chapter here at Bloomsburg University. I joined my Freshman year Spring semester of 2013. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. ASA is full of fun, lively and beautiful women who I have grown so close to within the last 2 years and consider all of them my best friends.
I started this blog for my PR class and what better topic to talk about weekly then my sorority. ASA participates in community service all over campus as well as off campus with our philanthropies. Some of ASA philanthropies are: Girls On The Run, Relay For Life, Special Olympics and S. June Smith Center. ASA is always willing to give back to the community.
As the weeks go on through out this semester I will be keeping you updated with events and community service that we would like to share with you.
